HOLTVILLE — A Holtville man is dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head and a second man is in custody for his homicide, according to information from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.
Killed was 39-year-old Steven Garibaldi of Holtville, who was pronounced dead at 7:19 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Coroner Emmanuel Ramirez.
Arrested on suspicion of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of ammunition was 40-year-old Adrian Alvarado Lopez, whose city of residence was not available. His bail has been set at $1 million.
Sheriff’s officials are providing few details into the incident other than to say deputies arrived to a disturbance call at 6:54 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Underwood Road in Holtville where they located a victim of a battery with head injuries and began to render first aid on the victim until medical personnel could arrive.
Further investigation led deputies to a second and undisclosed location where a male subject was found lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following up on leads, sheriff’s investigators and patrol deputies located a suspect, identified as Lopez, and a female companion, both of whom were taken into custody. Several statements were obtained during interviews and various items of evidence collected, including a firearm believed to have been used in the crime.
The female companion, Jessica Michelle Noriega, 36, was booked into Imperial County jail on suspicion of being an accessory. Her bail was set at $10,000.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, according to sheriff’s officials. No investigators were available for comment on the incident Monday.
