EL CENTRO — A 58 year-old man died as the result of a stabbing incident that occurred Thursday night in the 1900 block of Austin Road, county Sheriff’s Office announced.
Ruben Beltran was pronounced deceased at the scene Thursday night by emergency medical personnel.
While an exact cause of death has yet to be announced, as an autopsy from the county coroner’s office is still pending, Beltran did sustain injuries that indicate a knife was used, ICSO Lt. Jimmy Duran said.
James McDaniel, 30, of El Centro, was identified as the prime suspect responsible for the stabbing and was arrested by ICSO investigators, Duran said.
McDaniel was booked into county jail on a $1 million bail on suspicion of homicide.
At about 10 p.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to the Austin Road residence in reference to the report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, deputies located Beltran, who was subsequently pronounced dead.
Beltran and McDaniel both resided at the same address where the incident occurred, Duran said.
The incident is still under investigation, and the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
