EL CAJON — After starting the season 3-0 the Brawley Wildcats have tasted defeat for the first time, falling to the Christian High Patriots, 9-8, across in seven innings on Saturday.
The Wildcats started the game off strong, scoring twice in the first inning, once in the second, twice in the third and three times in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead, but the bullpen couldn’t hold on after starter Angel Brodell exited after the third inning.
Between them Israel Espinoza, Eli Salgado, Augustine Torres and Javier Calles combined to pitch wild 3.2 innings, walking eight and striking out just one.
Outfielder Jude Littrell and first-sacker Tennessee Carranza provided the Wildcats with most of their offense.
Littrell went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored (an effort that actually lowered his batting average on the year … all the way down to .643), while Carranza went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBI.
Next up for Brawley (3-1) will be a Tuesday date against Calexico (1-3). This game will be played in Calexico, but will not count toward league play as it is part of the non-league Sweetwater Tournament.
