CALIPATRIA — Following the Calipatria Hornets’ blowout (47-0) loss to the Tri-City Christian Eagles last week, senior free safety and wide receiver Hugo Cervantes expressed hope that his team had experienced its rock-bottom early enough in the season to internalize key lessons and set the table for rapid improvement.

“It’s only week one,” Cervantes said, “We can only get better.”
