EL CENTRO — Here’s one for “Strange Tales”: On Saturday, around 6:30 p.m., 27 high school baseballers from eight different schools showed up at Central Union High School all decked out in their various liveries. Their purpose? To compete in in the first ever Imperial Valley Sporting Network Baseball Senior All-Star game.

What’s so strange about that? Well, not much sans context — senior all-star games are fairly common occurrences the nation over — but here in the Valley, there hasn’t been much infrastructure supporting them within this century.
