It may not have the most glamorous name, but hundreds of cyclists are expected to flock to the El Centro Community Center this Saturday morning for the 27th annual Le Tour De Manure charity bike ride.

The event, founded by the folks at the former Jacques ‘N’ Jill’s Health Club but managed for the past 22 years by the city of El Centro, includes three routes of 15-, 25- and 50-mile distances, the longest of which will take participants off surface streets onto bumpy dirt roads for an inevitable loop past the farms and feedlots that give the race its name.

I graduated from San Diego Christian College with an English degree in May 2012 and began working in the sports department in September 2012. Before that, I played football and ran track at Southwest High, so this job seemed a natural fit.
