EL CENTRO — Southwest High School football is in a state of transition. After scaling incredible heights in 2017, the Eagles lost an incredible senior class and stumbled to a 4-6 record last year. Their head coach for the past five seasons, John Mitosinka, stepped down not long thereafter.

In March they hired another John — John Haines — to fill the vacancy. Haines, the former head coach of Mayville State University in North Dakota, couldn’t pull up stakes immediately and only arrived in town to take up the reigns three weeks ago, having coordinated with JV coach and defensive coordinator, Chris Gonzalez, prior to that.
